2006 saw the mobile devices vendors seeking for the devices with the huge amount of the internal memory. Considering the fact, that these devices were designed in 2005, the 3-4GB on-board memory was standard. The main reason stimulating consumers interest was the memory provided to the user, which was not limited by one memory card. In this case the most appropriate were memory cards of the following formats miniSD, microSD, M2. The classical SD memory cards, due to the installed full-sized NAND-chip, placed some restrictions. However, the main memory card type at that moment was 1 hard disk. To be quite frank, Nokia N91 was designed to proof this technology. But the appeared big amount of hardware mismatches didnt let the company launch the device in 2005. Samsung was in lucks way, as the I300 (the actual forefather of the segment, where the I450 is) shipped on the market as planned. It was then, that the companies passed the verdict to the further utilization of the hard disks in the mobile phones. Six hours in the average use totaled the power consumption characteristic of a device running the hard disk. Nokia had studied then this characteristic very closely, but with the course of time all forgot about dedicated digital-to-analog converter and amplifier. Nevertheless, the spring of 2006 made Finnish long-designed device be introduced as the series device.
In the same spring 2006 Sony Ericsson announced two compact smartphones running UIQ 3.0. The first member of their line based on Symbian 9.1 was long-built P990i, which appeared 18 months later since its semiofficial announcement. While M600i only projected the idea of the corporate smartphone with the QWERTY-keypad, its sibling W950i was a response of the company to the trend to install different hard disks. Specially for the W950i engineers wrote from scratch program software working with the music content. It was the time, when the company resolutely bet on the Walkman player software and the result surpassed the expectations of consumers. The company, in fact, managed to create the best player interface among all players, JukeBoxes and common music phones.
They easily chose the memory type: the smartphone has a slot for the memory cards of Memory Stick Pro format. The physical dimension of the internal space lets install only a slot for the M2 memory cards. Thus, instead of the slot, they have installed 4GB NAND flash memory.
This technology made it possible for the company to sell more than 500 thousand W950i in 2006 and to exceed the sales rate of the N91 and the N 918 GB, which appeared in autumn of that year. The phone didnt become the most popular music device because of the mediocre (in comparison with the main rival) sound quality and the lack of camera.
2007 brought about rapid development of music phones due to the two facts: cooperation of Samsung with Bang&Olufsen and emergence of updated components to process the digital sound made by Texas Instruments. As the result of the former, the market was enriched by Samsung E740, E300 and I450. The latter factor becomes the most significant to Nokia and let use the phrase audio chip.
Sony Ericsson spent the last year establishing the product line, changing their concepts rather than utilizing hardware novelties. The situation with the phones running A200 gradually becomes clear and we see the logical development of the company range of phones at the cost of the really diverse devices. But the situation with the smartphones based on UIQ remains tangle. One reason is that the company bought the whole division and, consequently, the redistributed responsibility for the creation of the product. This obligation is used to be divided between Texas Instruments and UIQ. But now Sony Ericsson occupies not only the central place in the chain of these three parts. The company, in fact, redistributes duties the resellers are busy now with shipping components. Theoretically, this measure allows the company to control other UIQ clients, such as Motorola, Samsung. To put it simple, Sony Ericsson is enabled to produce novelties today, which their rivals get only tomorrow.
But the case is that today we can see nothing special. 2007 was to announce about 7 different smartphones, but, in fact, there were less of them than when the W950i was announced. While the situation with the P1i is more or less clear, the second UIQ 3.0 smartphone puts lots of questions to customers, even to the targeted ones. The first and foremost question which confuses most buyers is the following: Which of the models is the Walkman flagship device in 2007-2008? We have the answer: the company doesnt have the notion flagship model at all; at least the marketers of the company didnt have it when creating the product line. Thereby the W960i remains the most functional offer in the segment of Walkman-devices. The W910i has been and is the most functional slider of the company without pretensions to be something more.
Design
The device ships with lots of changes in design in comparison with the previous model. For example, the standard utilized material now is the unpainted plastic of the corresponding tint. All corner pieces of the phone are chamfered; the built quality is also more reliable.
The dimensions have increased a bit in comparison with the predecessor:
W950i: 106.654.515.8 mm
W960i: 108.6.55.216.2 mm
The weight doesnt stand out from the common requirements put to the smartphones with the touch screen and totals 119g.
The device lies more comfortably in the hand than its predecessor thanks to the chamfered rear cover made of Soft-Touch plastic.
Near the top end of the front panel the manufacturer placed the narrow cut with the earpiece on the right. You may find its location unusual, in case your previous phone had the earpiece in the middle. To the left of the cut you find the CIF-camera lens used for video calling.
One centimeter below you see the 2.6 TFT QVGA screen with 262.000 colours. Pictures prove to be bright with rich colours, though the common colour temperature is close to 5500K instead of the standard 6400K. In the sun the screen is middling.
The main problem preventing the comfort reading is the glassy surface of the protective plastic, which is placed 2mm above the screen matrix. This also impacts the viewing angles limiting them. More or less comfortable value is 120-140 degrees in both planes.
Right under the screen, the same as in the previous model, you find the touch keys to control player. When in the W950i you cant confuse them with the screen line of softkeys, but in the W960i you can easily do it. The vendor placed below five horizontal rows with three buttons in each of them. That is a keypad. The rows are placed in the ladder-like way (the same you see in the K530i and the K800i); the keys are wide enough to use the blind typing. The top line of keys contains a central key switching into the player mode and vice versa, delete key on the right and back key on the left. The main drawback of ergonomics is the lack of the Play button, the second one is the back key which is located now rather far from the only mechanical control. Consequently, you have constantly to shift the device from the palm to the fingers and backwards because of such a location of the back key. Its screen substitute in the right upper corner is not still notable for its convenience. But if you have already pulled out the stylus, youd better poke the screen, than stretch your little finger in order to press the key. Among the other specifications of the keys we can name the average travel distance and clear click. If you press the keys with the whole surface of the thumb, they unpleasantly crackle.
The side panels of the casing run the white frame housing all side control elements. The frame is made of the milk-white plastic inclined to darkening after 4-6 months of active use in the common conditions. It is absolutely normal, as the scratches on the front panel become visible after a month or two. Moreover, the greasy finger prints dont make the phone look pretty.
The bottom end of the phone has Fast Port in the middle to all kinds of wired accessories. Above it you see the rough glass diffracting the light of the IrRD diode and signaling when the battery is charged or when you should charge it. To the left of the port the manufacturer placed rather big cut of the microphone. During the talks its position doesnt impact on the audibility of your interlocutor. But when video recording you unintentionally covers the microphone with the palm in case you hold the device in the left hand. The only solution of this problem is to hold the handset with four fingers with two hands, as if you hold a small little thing.
The top end of the W960i houses an embedded power button. It has a short travel distance and clear click, which we missed in the previous model. Nearby you see the stylus head. Generally speaking we could describe it not only when talking about the top end. The stylus is fastened in the silo, which is located on the rear panel and its head closes the missing part of the casing.
In the model the stylus is also fixed with the help of the steel wire, though now it is hidden under the panel and all possible mechanical problems with it are ruled out. And now a couple of words about the stylus itself.
The new stylus doesnt look like a round stick resembling a pen rod. Sectional view of the stylus looks like a chip of the triangular shape, if you can imagine it. The stylus is made of the matt ABS Plastic, which doesnt credit the designers of the company. If you show this stylus to a common user, he may think that it is an accessory made by unknown Korean vendor. It was not a wise decision of the company, to use such a material. They also made a mistake when Sony Ericsson neglected the steel elements of the casing in this rather expensive device. But now lets look at the main specification of this part of the phone, namely, the ergonomics of this asymmetrical stylus. And in this we have to admit that all complains vanish.
The stylus with the form like this, as we see it, much better matches the unhandy thin stylus silos in the modern handsets. For example, if you have a stylus of PDA/communicator, try to catch it with fingers and, as usual, knock with it by any hard surface. A common stylus slips in the fingers and, consequently, the comfort leaves much to be desired. If you take a pen, it will not slip in such a way.
So, the stylus of the W960i can be easily held with fingers without its slipping during this sort of experiment. To cap it all, its length totals 94mm.
The right end features two jetting out volume controls. They have a light travel and slightly squeaking click. It is all for the flaws. The advantage is the centimeter space between them. There is an insert between them indicating the size of the NAND memory module, which substitutes a memory slot. Three centimeters below from the bottom end of the casing you find a small slightly sticking out two-step shutter key. It focuses when you lightly press the button and becomes on the same level with the casing. If you press it strongly and it deeps on a millimeter in the casing, you see the final focusing or camera launching. The travel is tight, the click is almost unnoticeable, thus it takes you time to get used to it.
The left side decorated with the subbrand logo houses the scrolling wheel. It is as before doubles as the affirmative key; the distinct fixation of each step of scrolling makes the work very comfortable.
The rear cover is mainly made of black plastic with a rubber film. Thanks to this design, the device lies comfortably and reliably in the hand without any slips.
Almost one third of the rear panel is occupied with the solid fringe of the camera. The company decided in this way to emphasize the presence of the 3.2megapixel camera equipped with autofocus and two diodes of LED photolight.
Above this raised ring the panel houses a hole of the polyphonic loudspeaker covered from the outside with a large decagonal grille and tiny one beneath. The solution looks rather impressing.
The fastening of the rear cover may distress all users hating slackness. The cover can boast about a 0.5mm vertical slackness. To remove the cover by shifting it with a press on three jags is a tricky thing, which brings into the question solidity of the construction. The cover moves as if it isnt fixed at all. But the interesting thing is that you will fail to pull down the cover when holding it by the bottom end. And it is the special feature of the fastening mechanism equipped with one fix only near the camera fringe. To prevent the cover from caving, which is made of rather thin plastic, the vendor placed a foam rubber patch.
The rear cover hides 950mAh Li-Pol battery BST-33. It runs 1.5 days with an average use. In the playback mode the phone indicates the low battery charge after 15 hours and then switches off in 150 minutes with the battery being empty. To sum it up, the device provides us with 17 hours in playback mode with the wired headset Hpm 82.
After removing the battery, you are enabled to pull out a sim from the slot.
Platform
The devise is based on Symbian 9.1 operation system with the UIQ 3.0 user interface. The hardware characteristic of the device includes ARM9 processor with 181MHz frequency and the co-processor decompressing video and processing Open GL graphics. The name of it mentioned in the thick leaflets is Philips Nexperia PNX4008. To put it simply, the hardware specifications resemble the ones of Samsung 3G mobile phones based on A200. The available memory capacity doesnt riddle at all. There is 159MB of memory which we are used to name an internal memory. Instead of the memory card slot known as the multimedia disk the vendor has utilized memory module sized 7820MB. The RAM of the device totals about 120MB; the user is allowed to use more than 90 MB of them. The previous handsets of the company (except the P1i) came at the best with 10-11MB available for the user, which were sufficient only, when you carefully switch off the inactive applications. Our todays guest allows you to minimize two dozens of programs and switch on the film playback.
Interface
If you have already dealt with Sony Ericsson smartphones, the interface of the W960i will seems to you common and usual. In case you, as well as the author of the article, master UIQ 3.0 for the first time, the study of the shell starts from scratch.
The stand-by window shows a top system bar housing icons of signal receive level, active Wi-Fi module, Bluetooth, as well as different kinds of reports. In the corners you see the tags of the shortcuts and Task Manager. The bottom line of the softkeys consists of the tabs opening the Call list, Menu and the tab of the customary utility of quick settings (More). When you press on it, the player is launched. Above Call softkey you see the tags leading to the main menu, as well as calling out the icons of the shortcut to the main functions.

The main menu can be viewed as a grid consisting of 9 icons with wide space between them. Both chosen and the other icons have signatures. You are enabled to create folders in the main menu, but you are unable to create subfiles. You cant also create new directories in the items of the main menu, though you are allowed to switch the imaging everywhere.
 
 
 
The tags from the menu can be moved in the following folders: entertainment, main menu, media, organizer, phone. The right tab (the right softkey) has a tag informing about the installed firmware. The last, but not the least, what wed like to mention (besides the digital navigation through the main menu and its subitems) is that the user is enabled to choose as the wallpaper only pictures in the Jpeg format, which have to be sized to 240x273.
Contacts
The application working with the contacts hasnt changed much since the previous smartphones M600i and W950i. The amount of contacts is not limited, as well as the number of groups. When viewing them, you can choose the necessary contacts and send them a message or delete or add them to a group. The contacts stored in the sim card, of course, can be edited and send to the phone memory.
 
 
 
 
 
The number of fields is limited, though it has almost all necessary fields to create any entry:

The call list cant boast about great functionality, however, the repetitive events are shown without shortenings and the detailed information about them is enough for the most users.
Messages
Messages are sorted into Email and SMS/MMS.
 
 
We dont have much to say you about the mail client, thus just look at the following screenshots.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
The SMS application is simple, convenient and, what is more important, supports emoticons and EMS stuffed with content.
 
 
The MMS application is not also something extraordinary, however, it allows not only to create the presentations with unlimited number of slides (except the limitation on the size, which is not to exceed 300KB), but also to fix the period of viewing each slide (1-5 seconds). The amount of files crammed into a message is limited, as expected, by size; the types of attached files are not necessarily to be supported by the phone.
 
 
 
 
Organizer
This menu item houses all main applications which we name the office apps.
The first app in the list is Calendar. The available view modes are Month view, Week view and Day view. Here you can create new tasks. Firstly, you choose a type of the event, then feel several fields among six available ones, regardless of a small text note.
 
 
 
 
 
Correspondingly, there are Notes and Tasks items available in the menu.
 
Quick Office
It is a simple application to view files done in Word, Excel, Power Point 1997-2003. Fortunately, you are enabled to simply edit doc- and xls-files. In case you have to edit a text files, things turn to worse.
 
 
 
 
 
The same problems stay when working with tables. Though there are main options and arithmetic operations, you practically dont find means connecting the cells.
 
 
 
 
Business card scanner may interest almost all users.
 
PDF+
As the device is equipped with huge amount of RAM-memory, this program is rather useful. The catalogues of an average size (20-40MB) are easily opened and can be used for viewing.
 
 
Though this menu item doesnt connect with it, wed like to mention here Opera 8.65 which is used as the internet browser.
 
The browser works very quickly; the unlimited number of windows, as well as the possibility to view well the bulky sites makes the browser be one of the best applications for utilizing Wi-Fi in this smartphone.
 
 
 
 
Input Modes
Though the smartphone lacks the hardware qwerty-keypad, there are all other input modes, and they are useful at that.
The phone keypad is designed only to be used with T9 predicative base. We have some complaints about complications we met when updating word stock. But if you have already got used to the standard input without T9, you should switch on the system of the handwritten recognition. It works very badly, in general because it processes drafts made without tearing the stylus away from the screen. What is wrong with it, you may ask. To understand it, just try to write distinctly letters T, F, Q, Y without tearing the stylus away from the paper.
 
We think that the virtual qwerty-keypad is the most comfortable one for text input. It has rather big letters and doesnt have any problems with changing the layouts.
 
Walkman 3.0
We observe the same interesting situation two years running. The program interfaces of Walkman players installed in mobile phones and smartphones have the same name, but nevertheless they differ from each other in the same way as IPod Classic and IPod Shuffle. We saw it a year ago with the couple W950i&W850i, and the same weve seen now. The phones based on A200 have the same third player version, but their interface differs from the player installed in the W960i totally.
Though, one thing at a time.
The same as in the mobile phones, the interface of the media library is equipped with nice animated cursor.
 
At first we see the sorting by artists, albums, as well as the jump to the playing window. Then we come across the sorting by:
- Tracks
- Playlists
- Auto playlists
- Moods
- Last played
- My recordings.
 
 
 
Of course, most of all we interested in the sorting by mood. The device offers you to sort your tracks by Happy, Sad, Energy and Silent modes. In each setting you are enabled to adjust speed of visualization effects and colour. The main advantage, which differs the smartphone player from the phone one, is the possibility to add tracks in these subsections not with the help of PC, but right in the smartphone. You are likely to agree, that it is easier to add this or that track to the folder at the certain moment, when you are in certain mood, for example, when you are tearful or sad, rather than when you are with the PC and try to imagine which emotions this track stirs up. And this flaw prevents either the author of the article, or 99% of users of the W910i from trying this option in the A200-based phones and sorting the tracks in this way.
 
Here you should point the necessary artist/album/track and choose in the options set a mood.
In the similar way you can set up an album cover to an album or to a song.
 
 
 
 
The device sips with dynamic list of codings consisting of two dozens of language sets, though there is no KOI8-R.
 
The playing window attracts attention right away after you press the touch key Play. The thing is that the background image is black for all objects in the playback mode.
It remains black till the playback is switched on. If music starts playing, the background is changed into the active SWF animation, which can boast about (unlike the other) very smooth motion of objects. The objects can have one of the following effects:
- Breeze
- Volcano
- Fizz
- Bubbles
- Underwater.
 
 
 
 
The speed of movements and objects colour depend on the adjusted mood.
It is not an easy thing to describe a player in details, because all icons shown on the screen not only dedicated to a function, but also remain active. We dont have much to say about repeat and shuffle modes icons, everything is very common.
 
 
 
The third icon placed near them is Equalizer. The later as ever doesnt enable you to set the user settings, however, the installed set of ten initial settings, except the linear value, is enough for the most users. It is nice to see, that the smartphone has a different mechanism suppressing overloads, thus you can hear the high frequencies in Drumm&Bass tracks, as well as a normal distortion of the rhythm guitar in Heavy Metal tracks. We cant accuse the linear setting in flat sound.
 
 
However, we are hurry when describing the sound quality; wed better speak about the active album cover. When you press on it, it moves slowly forward occupying two thirds of the screen. As to the album covers, we can add, that the pictures can be displayed either as the tags from pictures or folder.jpeg from the folder with the album.
 
The scrolling bar is thin, but we met no problems with finger navigation. There is also no discomfort when cycling through track by means of touch keys. Every three seconds of pressing the keys switch on the progressive rewind with steps:
- 1 second
- 5 seconds
- 10 seconds
- 25 seconds
- 1 minute.
To the left of the bar the phone shows the active played time, to the right a static indicator of the whole track duration. Below you see track title, artist, album. After pressing the corresponding icons, you can move to the corresponding way of sorting.
 
All in all, weve got the same impression from the player, as in 2001 from Winamp, which the author of the article installed then for the first time instead of Media Player. Walkman 3.0 has lots of small active buttons; the peculiar playlists are set to pressings of the scrolling wheel. To cap it all, wed like to mention several peculiarities of the player, which indicate that the smartphone is designed to dominate other devices when it comes to the program functionality of the player.
There is no special sorting by audiobooks, but you are enabled to set a tab to each file. When returning to these tracks, the player starts playing right after the tab on the progress bar.
 
 
 
 
 
And the last, but not the least.
How do you think, we can download music into the 8GB memory installed in the N91 (N81, N95 8GB). On the one hand, these devices have an advantage over the W960i, as their user is enabled to use the phones with PC as the removable disk, without installing PC Suite and other drivers. When working with Sony Ericsson W960i, you have firstly to install this software, otherwise this removable disk will not be identified by Windows XP/2003, as well as new Vista/2008. We think, this feature of the music device is absolutely inappropriate, as our guest is positioned as the music-aimed handset. But it is all for the drawbacks. The data transfer speed impresses all Nokia-addicts. It totals 5-6MB/s and you need about 5 minutes to feed your smartphone with 6GB of music (about 900 tracks). While Nokia N95 8GB and other aforementioned devices need about three-four hours to do the same.
Sound Quality
At first wed intended to give very detailed report about this specification of the device, but then after considered the hardware limitations when using high-quality headphones, we shortened this item till the necessary minimum. For a start, lets try to imagine how tangled the cobweb of headphones wires and HPM-70 adapter looks. Of course, the wires arent the best solution, but in case you made up your mind to get rid of them, it will cost you the same 100 euro, which you may spend on good headphones. Naturally, the variant with A2DP sound transfer profile with WAV bitrate 350-400 Kb/s corresponds mp3 96-128Kb/s. Consequently, there are no hardware possibilities to use the headphones of other vendors. Alas, this situation will not change in the near future, while Nokia has already moved to 3.5mm jack for audio/video accessories.
Now, after we have already learned, that it is uncomfortable to change a player for this device, we can move to the sound quality itself.
The mobile phone has rather good sound. The volume reserve is 10-30% depending on your habit. The producer has worked out the frequency rage and other specifications in the same way as in other Sony Ericsson phones/smartphones. Due to the well implemented effects processor, the equalizer settings dont spoil the sound quality, as well as in the W910i and others.

The RMAA test was performed in three condition types. During the first test, we switched on equalizer and got rather good results. Then we switched on Mega Bass to demonstrate the changes of the amplitude-frequency characteristic with this add-in. In the end we played the test sample via Core Player. The test didnt show any important differences, so Walkman 3.0 doesnt impact on the sound quality. And wed like to mention the last thing connected with Core Player. The real difference can be noticed only when listening to the light instrumental music in the 14-17KHz range, which is rather difficult to hear.
Radio
The FM-radio installed in the smartphone is made in the design similar to the player. The scrolling wheel, as well as the touch keys BWD&FWD cycles through the radio stations. There is an autosearch in the range 87.5-108MHz which searches the whole range 10-15 times. You are also enabled to adjust the necessary station manually and save it in one of 20 memory cells, where the results of the search are stored.

Unlike the predecessor the smartphone has no IR-port, though it has the more useful Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g. Considering the size of the RAM this module is much more urgent, then in the P990i, but of course if you need it to work with Skype.
 
As we have already talked about transfer speed via cable, it is senseless to touch upon it once again.
Performance
This review item doesnt seem to have any useful information, especially, if we compare the ARM9 CPU lock installed in the W960i with the processers utilized in the N95 8Gb or Gigabyte T650.

The scheme of work of these two processors resembles DX10 in Vista, where the central processor is occupied with mathematic operations only, while video card is for constructing and decompressing video.
OMAP 2420 also has the similar co-processor, however, it doesnt work with mpeg 4 codecs and their derivatives (DivX, XViD). So, this all means, that the W960i is one of the most adapted device among smartphones (where it is easier to make a call, then to open Word/Excel).
In reality, the 1005 limit for the smartphone is the films with a bitrate up to 1.2 Mb/s. Considering the memory size, it is senseless to speak about non-converted films, though there is no VGA-screen in the handset.
Camera
Being the hardware clone of the P1i, the W960ialso has the 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and two diodes of the LED photolight. All these elements are framed with a large fringe; the camera lens is embedded in one millimeter relative to the plastic insert with a rubber cover.
We are glad to see, though it is strange to hear, that the camera interface lost an orientation. The thing is, that the soft keys are signed for the portrait orientation, the other keys, for example camera release key, are designed for the landscape orientation. The viewfinder has a full-screen size, but the numerous icons and signatures cut the usable area on 20%. In the bottom of the screen you see the inactive indicators of the chosen resolution, white balance, light, place to save and other active functions. On the left side the phone shows brightness bar (-2: +2 with a step 0.33), on the top end the indicator of the digital zoom. The latter is interesting, as it is regulated by the volume controls, as well as the scrolling wheel. The approaching scale is divided into the following zones 3Mp, 2Mp, 1Mp, 0.3 Mp from right to left.

Phone quality
The phone quality is more than good for the using in condition of the city. We didnt find any substantial differences from other phones/smartphones of the company. The earpiece and microphone cant boast about any fantastic quality, but they render the speech without distortions. The volume reserve of the earpiece is not very big; it is about 15-20% in the quiet room. The polyphonic loudspeaker is loud. Comparing it with the one installed in Nokia 6110, we can say, the loudspeaker has the same quality and is 10-15% quieter. The vibration is less than an average one, but in most situations it is distinct.
Conclusion
The most functional Sony Ericsson smartphone in the Walkman series proved to be mixed device. On the one hand we see the same stability as in the predecessor and the enlarged size of RAM, which was the biggest drawback of the M600i and the W950i. This improvement was rather radical one, and now 30 applications really can be activated. They also solved the problem with the media, as the lack of the camera in the previous model was something inexplicable. The consumers were faced with this fact and tried to turn their eyes on the P990. In 2007-2008 we will not see the flagship smartphones and it will cost much to remove the camera from one and the same platform. If we compare the hardware specifications of the review model with the P1, we dont find any important differences. Thus the perspectives of the W960i on the market are rather questionable, plus the price tag of the device is rather considerable.
So, we can explain, why weve chosen such a title to our review. The situation is the following: the company had the W950i and the P1i. They wanted to do the continuation of the W950i from the P1i with 8GB of the internal memory and thats all. The company didnt have any other objectives. And this can explain the failure of this solution; it does improve the previous model, but these changes were actual yesterday, and dont correspond to the todays norm and tomorrows level. In comparison with the N81 8GB, that has the comparable price, the W960i looks not very good. As to the N95, which has the same price tag, it features more merits, that our guest. And dont forget about the N95 8GB, which is 100 euro more expensive than Sony Ericsson device. Dont you think that the W960i is cordoned off? And in these conditions the W960i has only two advantages: touch screen with UIQ 3.0 and Walkman 3.0 player.
We can compare this handset with the communicators based on Windows Mobile. The average buyer of this device is a young man, 20-30 years old, which is not interested of the high price and steering clear of the communicators running Microsoft operation system. This consumer finds in the W960i impressive amount of memory, camera with autofocus, touch screen and possibility to use third-party software. The mean price is about 500-550 euro may have been reasonable for this rather functional offer. But the rivals, unlike Sony Ericsson, provide devices with more interesting multimedia possibilities, thus the W960i has to join the range devices and to compete with powerful multimedia handsets from Nokia NSeries and functional communicators of HTC.
The SAR value for Sony Ericsson W960i is about 0.98 W/kg.
